Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang has penned an article “Tapping the power of great national unity in the national construction and defence amid new requirements” on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

He wrote that since its establishment, the Party has regarded the great national unity as a strategic policy, a source of power, a major motivation and a factor crucial to victory of the Vietnamese revolution.

The State leader cited the late President Ho Chi Minh as saying that “Solidarity, solidarity, great solidarity. Success, success, great success” and one of the goals set in the document of the 12 th National Party Congress “Bringing into play available resources and the people’s creativity potential to build and defend the nation, for the sake of peace, independence, unification and territorial integrity”.

Since the August Revolution, the Party and State have issued a number of policies and laws on ethnic and religious affairs, youths, women, workers, farmers, intellectuals, artists and Vietnamese nationals abroad, with a view to upholding the power of great national unity in the national construction, defence and development.

With the motto “People know, people discuss, people act, people monitor”, people’s right to mastery in the State and socio-economic management has been strengthened while democracy at the grassroots level has been expanded.

In the current context of building a law-governed socialist State of the people, by the people and for the people, the President admitted negative occurrences such as wealth gap, corruption, wastefulness and violation of legitimate rights of the people.

In order to successfully push forward industrialisation and modernisation, he called attention to raising awareness and responsibility of the entire political system, authorities at all levels and the public about the strengthening of great national unity, partly by building a contingent of officials and cadres who understand, respect and hold responsible for the people.

He appealed for staying persistent in effectively realising the Resolution “Several urgent issues in Party building at present” adopted by the fourth plenum of the 11 th National Party Congress in tandem with a campaign on studying and following moral examples of President Ho Chi Minh.

Party units and authorities need to improve the quality of educating patriotic tradition, civic responsibility, professional ethics and create social consensus, considering them as crucial factor to reinforcing great national unit, he said, adding that judicial and administrative reform must also be accelerated, especially in remote and mountainous areas.

In the meantime, it is necessary to hold regular dialogues and deal with public concern over employment, land and environment; actively fight distorted allegations by hostile forces; fine-tune socio-economic development policies for ethnic and mountainous areas and enhance the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and trade unions’ role in implementing great national unity policies as well as ethnic and religious work.

In the article, the leader called for spreading the campaign “All the people unite to build new-style rural areas and civilised urban areas” for 2016-2020 initiated by the VFF, heeding people-to-people diplomacy to attract more Vietnamese nationals overseas’ efforts to contribute more to the homeland.

In conclusion, he stressed that the Party and the entire political system’s mission is to renew leadership way, improve brainpower and fighting spirit to gather walks of life in the great national unity bloc, thus creating a strong power in the national construction and defence.-VNA
