President visits Central Highlands provinces

President Truong Tan Sang has paid working visits to the Central Highlands provinces of Kon Tum and Gia Lai to inspect their implementation of socio-economic development tasks.
President Truong Tan Sang has paid working visits to the CentralHighlands provinces of Kon Tum and Gia Lai to inspect theirimplementation of socio-economic development tasks.

At a working session with Kon Tum province’s key leaders on March 16,President Sang praised socio-economic development achievements made bythe province during a year of implementing the Resolution of the 11thNational Party Congress.

He said that Kon Tumprovince, as well as the Central Highlands region, with the potentialof abundant land, should plan to expand the area of plantations whilemaintaining forest coverage for environmental protection.

The provincial leaders reported that Kon Tum recorded an economicgrowth rate of 14.3 percent and a State budget collection of nearly 1.5trillion VND in 2011.

They suggested the Stateinvest in traffic routes in the province such as the Ho Chi Minh Roadand National Roads 24 and 14c.

The day before,President Sang visited Sa Thay district in the province, to assess thesocio-economic situation, public security and local defencecapabilities.

While in Sa Thay district, thePresident called at Border Post 707, which guards 21 kilometres of theborder with Laos and Cambodia .

Also on March 16, the President paid a working visit to neighbouring Gia Lai province.

Arriving at the border commune of Ia Nam in Duc Co district, the Stateleader praised local people’s efforts in expanding production areas andactively applying scientific and technological advances to increase theproductivity and quality of products.

He asked theprovincial authorities to work closely with the local officials inimplement poverty reduction programmes, helping people in Duc Codistrict in general and Ia Nan commune in particular enjoy a better lifein their homeland.

The President also visited themobile police regiment in the Central Highlands, Army Corps No. 3 andthe High Command of Army Corps No. 15.-VNA

Vietnam proposes key priorities for advancing gender equality

Sharing Vietnam’s achievements, Thanh noted that women account for nearly one-third of Vietnam’s National Assembly members; 40% of Vietnam’s STEM workforce is female; 26.5% of businesses in the country are owned by women; women account for 68.5% of the country’s labour force, surpassing the global average of 48.7% and 14.4% of Vietnam’s peacekeepers are women, higher than the UN average of 10.2%.
