Hanoi (VNA) - President Tran Dai Quang has written an article to mark the 50th anniversary of the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in spring 1968.
In his article entitled “Promoting the fighting spirit for success of the 1968 Spring Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in national renovation, construction and defence,” President Quang highlighted the event as a milestone in Vietnamese people’s warfare art and powerful staunchness of the people in the Ho Chi Minh era.
He said five decades after the historical victory, Vietnam has recorded significant growth in the context of fast-changing world that requires the whole Party, people and army to make greater efforts and turn challenges into opportunities for comprehensive national development in politics, economics, culture, social, national defence, security, and foreign affairs.
Socio- economic development is put in the center, Party building is pivotal, cultural and human building are seen as a spiritual foundation, and national defence and security are crucial and regular.
The President stressed the need to build a transparent and strong Party and political system, continue implementing strategic breakthroughs to speed up economic restructuring in line with growth model reform and increase the productivity, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy.
It is also essential to actively respond to climate change; effectively manage natural resources; protect the environment; intensify defence and security to safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; maintain peace and stability; and raise the country’s position and prestige in the region and the world, he wrote.
The great spirit and high determination to notch up victory over the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in spring 1968 has been and will continue to strongly encourage the Party, people and army of Vietnam to overcome difficulties and challenges while seizing new opportunities in order to develop Vietnam into a modern, industrialised country, he said.
The State leader called for combined efforts to uphold the spirit of patriotism, self-reliance, dynamism and creativity towards the goal of developing Vietnam into a powerful country with rich people living in an equal, democratic, and civilised society, firmly advancing to socialism.-VNA
