Dien Bien (VNA) – A press centre was inaugurated in the northern mountainous province of Dien Bien on March 11 to serve domestic and foreign reporters who cover the 2016 Dien Bien Ban Flower Festival.

According to Director of the provincial Department of Information and Communications Nguyen Ngoc Ky, the well-equipped press centre will provide official information and photos on activities during the five-day festival, starting from March 11. It is located at the province’s Culture and Convention Centre.

The Viettel Dien Bien Company will provide free wifi access for tourists in areas where the festival’s activities take place, he added.

The 2016 Dien Bien Ban Flower Festival draws the participation of eight northwestern provinces and their neighbours from northern Laos and northeastern Thailand.

A wide range of activities will be held during the event, including a photo contest on the subject of Ban flower, the traditional dances of some ethnic groups like Mong, Thai and Kho Mu, and a cultural exhibition and folk games.

Visitors will be treated to special art performances featuring unique local culture.

A workshop on developing tourism products, along with a cooking contest and a street parade, will also be highlighted at the festival.

Ban flower, scientifically known as Bauhinia Variegata, is typical to the northern mountainous region of Vietnam, and often blossoms in spring.
