Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked the armed forces to intensify training so as to stand ready for responding to and combating in any possible circumstances while maintaining sound coordination with other forces in safeguarding the country’s political security and social order.

He made the instruction at a conference reviewing the military and defence affairs in Hanoi on December 23, noting that the regional and global situations will continue dealing with unpredicted and complicated developments.

The Government leader stressed the need for the army to master modern weapons, vehicles, and technologies to reinforce the nation’s defence strength as well as combat and self-defence capacities.

He asked for paying greater attentions to developing the defence industry, with the focus on bettering maintenance service and developing new equipment and vehicles to support the armed forces’ defence and combative readiness.

The army should continue helping with local economic, cultural, and educational development, health care, and the building of new rural areas while playing as the main force in search and rescue missions and natural disaster fight, he said.

Due attention must be given to building Party line-up and promoting the tradition of unity in building the revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army, the PM stressed.-VNA
