Prime Minister receives outgoing Lao Ambassador

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has congratulated outgoing Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane on fulfilling his assigned tasks and receiving a first-class Labour Order of the Vietnamese Party and State for his contributions to promoting bilateral relations.

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc has congratulated outgoing Lao Ambassador to VietnamThongsavanh Phomvihane on fulfilling his assigned tasks and receiving a first-classLabour Order of the Vietnamese Party and State for his contributions topromoting bilateral relations.

During a reception in Hanoi onOctober 9, PM Phuc lauded the ambassador for his efforts to prepare for visitsby the two countries’ senior leaders, including the Vietnamese PM’s visits andattendance at international conferences over the past three years and therecent Vietnam visit by Lao PM Thongloun Sisoulith.

He said the ambassador well servedas a bridge to strengthen the special solidarity and comprehensive partnershipbetween the two countries.

The PM also expressed hissympathy with the Lao government and people over severe losses in humans andproperty in central and southern provinces of Laos.

Vietnam will continue providingall possible support for 16,000 Lao students in the country, including the grantingof 1,200 scholarships and assisting Laos in personnel training, he said.

On regional and global issues,including the complicated developments in the East Sea, PM Phuc expected that Laoswould continue to coordinate and affirm its stance on maintaining peace andstability, respecting for law, ensuring security and freedom of navigation andaviation, settling disputes in the East Sea through peaceful measures in linewith international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on theLaw of the Sea.

He suggested Laos continuesupporting and cooperating with Vietnam when the country assumes the role ofASEAN Chair 2020 and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Councilfor the 2020-2021 tenure.

The PM expressed his belief that inany position, the ambassador will contribute more to fostering Vietnam-Laosspecial relations.

Thongsavanh, for his part, saidhe has tried his best to meet the expectations of the two countries’ leadersand people.

He also took the occasion tothank the Vietnamese Party, State and people for supporting Lao counterparts inthe past and at present, particularly in overcoming natural disasters over thepast years./.

Vietnam and Italy should promote the role of their legislative bodies and enhance oversight of the implementation of bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements. In particular, they should expand cooperation into emerging fields where Italy has strengths and Vietnam has demand, such as science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and high-quality human resource training.
