Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urgedaccelerating land clearance for the construction of the Vietnam NationalUniversity-Hanoi, which is at the core of a planned university town in Hoa Lacarea, Hanoi’s suburban Thach That district.

At a working session with Hanoi officials and the management of theuniversity on September 12, the PM reiterated the Government’s resolve to buildthe town.

Under the approved project, the Vietnam National University-Hanoi campusin Hoa Lac, 30km to the west of Hanoi, will cover 1,000 ha, housing 8 memberschools, five research institutes, 10 research training centres and other facilities.It will provide working and accommodation space for around 63,500 students and6,550 staff members.

The project was started in 2003 but has been stalled due to problems inland clearance and capital arrangement.

The PM stressed that the Government will support the university in thehope that it will be the locomotive for tertiary education in the country. 

He listened to and gave opinions on the university’s proposals onadjusting the detailed construction planning and building a specific financialmechanism for its operation.

The Vietnam National University-Hanoi, ranked 139th in Asialast year, currently has 29,397 undergraduate and 7,729 postgraduate students.It is now Vietnam’s largest university.-VNA
