As many as 285 prisoners in Hanoi have been granted amnesty on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam (Liberation) and the May Day.

Colonel Dinh Van Toan, Deputy Director of Hanoi Police, announced the decision in Hanoi on April 28, asking the released prisoners to strive hard to reintegrate into the community and not to re-offend.

Of the total, 228 received a reduction of their terms and 57 were released ahead of time, the official said at the ceremony.

The southern province of Vinh Long also reduced terms for 32 prisoners on this occasion./.
