Khanh Hoa (VNA) – A programme was conducted on May 16-17 at Nha Trang University in Nha Trang city, the south central province of Khanh Hoa, to give free check-ups and hearing aids to patients having hearing problems.

The programme was jointly implemented by the US non-governmental organisations of VinaCapital Foundation and Starkey Hearing Foundation.

It drew 200 technicians and volunteers to perform check-ups and consultation services, and present them with hearing aids to the needy in Khanh Hoa and four surrounding provinces of Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Ninh Thuan and Phu Yen.

Megan Baiocchi, Director of the programme in the Asia-Pacific region, said that through two years of implementation in Vietnam, the programme has brought about positive impacts to the community.

Over 80 percent of the patients receiving the services showed pleasure at their improved hearing ability, which makes them more happy and confident, she said.

She added that 65 percent of the total beneficiaries from schools for hearing-impaired people have started talking and showed positive academic performances, many of them can learn at normal schools.

In the coming time, the programme will continue supporting and accompanying with hearing-impaired people in Vietnam, creating positive and sustainable influence to the socio-economic development.

Since 2016, the programme has presented over 6,000 hearing aids to thousands of hearing-impaired people in Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Quang Ngai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.-VNA
