A 2-million EUR project to provide technical assistance to Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) was signed in Hanoi on October 6.

The project, signed between the European Commission (EC), the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aims to raise SMEs’ awareness of implementing their social responsibilities as well as strengthening links with global supply chains in sustainable production.

It will also help improve SMEs’ community involvement as well as their competitiveness in the international arena.

Of the project’s investment capital, the EC’s Switch-Asia Programme has contributed 1.6 million EUR and the remainder comes from UNIDO and other partners.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Sean Doyle, Head of the EC mission to Vietnam , expressed his hope that the project will contribute to sustainable production and consumption in Vietnam and help the Vietnamese government build policies for its 2011-2020 socio-economic development strategy./.
