Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved a project to develop some national print and online newspapers in service of external affairs of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) to 2020 with a vision towards 2030.
Accordingly, in 2020, the print newspaper Vietnam News and Vietnam Pictorial, as well as VietnamPlus electronic newspaper are poised to become national-level publications providing foreign news service with regional and global impacts and undertake the task of providing foreign news in line with guidelines and policies of the Party and State.
Specifically, the print version of Vietnam News will be improved in both quantity and quality of news, while the online version will be developed to gradually replace the print version and reach readers in 190 countries, 40 more from the current 150 countries.
The print version of Vietnam Pictorial will be provided free to 160 countries, with priority giving to readers in areas along the Vietnam-Laos border, China and some Latin American countries.
As the project aims to turn VietnamPlus into one of the five e-newspapers nationwide with the highest visits from other countries, the e-newspaper will have a Russian version along with those written in English, French, Spanish, and Chinese. It is set to become an e-paper with the most multimedia forms and a leader in using novel technologies in news production.
From 2020 to 2030, Vietnam Pictorial will have French, Khmer and Russian print versions while VietnamPlus will have Japanese, Korean and German versions. Print newspapers will be basically transformed to e-papers.
The VNA currently boasts a network of 63 representative offices nationwide and 30 representative offices worldwide.
With more than 60 media products by more than 1,000 reporters and editors out of its 2,400-strong staff, the VNA is now the media office having the largest number of products and forms in the country: bulletins, photos, TV programmes, dailies, weeklies, monthlies, magazines, pictorials, books, e-newspapers and information programmes on mobile platforms.-VNA
