Quang Binh (VNA) – Local residents in central Quang Binh province are concerned that riverbank erosion along the Son River will damage their houses and land.
The erosion occurred on the section of the bank bordering the province’s Lien Trach commune in Bo Trach district, with the eroded section being 30m long and 10m wide inland.
Dinh Xuan Thuyet, a local resident, said he first discovered the erosion on October 4 morning, and it continued every time the area experienced heavy rainfall.
Locals are worried the erosion will move further inland, causing their houses and soil to collapse into the river.
Hoang Minh Tu, Chairman of the Lien Trach People’s Committee of, said the commune has allocated forces to fence the eroded section of the riverbank, preventing accidents due to soil erosion. Warnings signs have been put up to stop heavy vehicles from travelling on the road near the erosion site.
For a long term solution for the erosion, the commune is waiting for a decision from authorities at a higher level, Tu said.-VNA
