Quang Nam (VNA) – The central province of Quang Nam on October 18 organised an oil spill response exercise at the Chu Lai – Truong Hai Port with the participation of hundreds of specialised vehicles and relevant forces.

According to the scenario, an oil spill occurred due to a technical problem while oil was being pumped from the ship to storage tanks, breaking the pipeline at the Chu Lai – Truong Hai Port. The closing valve could not close tight and a large volume of FO oil flooded out, making the on-site forces out of control.

The incident posted a serious threat to the safety of people, assets and the environment.

Right after the incident, the port deployed on-the-spot forces and vehicles to deal with the situation and asked the border guard command, the provincial military command, the port authority, the firefighting police and the department of natural resources and environment to dispatch forces to the site.

Despite timely measures, the incident increasingly worsened and was likely to go beyond the ability of mobilisied forces. Quang Nam authorities urged the Dung Quat Oil Refinery in the neighbouring province of Quang Ngai to assist with specialised forces.

After nearly three hours, forces controlled all the waters with oil and fix technical problems.-VNA
