Quang Nam teenagers join social works in Laos

A group of 43 young volunteers from the central province of Quang Nam have travelled to Dak Cheung district in the Laotian province of Sekong to carry out a number of social work related tasks from June 3-7.
A group of 43 young volunteers from the central province of Quang Nam have travelled to Dak Cheung district in the Laotian province of Sekong to carry out a number of social work related tasks from June 3-7.

The programme is part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the youth unions of Sekong and Quang Nam provinces.

The volunteers included young people, officials and doctors from Quang Nam ’s Economics and Technology College , the Youth Union from the provincial border guards and the Youth Union from Nam Giang district.

The volunteers presented gifts to 150 poor families, social beneficiaries and students in difficult circumstances, along with providing free check-ups and medicines for over 500 people in Dak Cheung district.

They presented vegetables and fruit to local people and helped the district to complete a 2km road. They also carried out several activities to raise public awareness of the need for environmental protection.

A number of cultural and sporting events along with discussions on what the youth union has been doing also took place as part of the programme.

According to Nguyen Duong Trieu, the Deputy Secretary of Quang Nam’s Provincial Youth Union, this is the third time that they have conducted a social campaign for young volunteers in Sekong province, which he said, contributes to strengthening solidarity between the two provinces./.
