Quang Ninh: border tourism thrives

The northern coastal province of Quang Ninh welcomed 8.3 million tourists in 2016, an year-on-year increase of seven percent, with a remarkable surge in the border areas of Mong Cai and Binh Lieu.

Quang Ninh (VNA) – The northerncoastal province of Quang Ninh welcome 8.3 million tourists in 2016, anyear-on-year increase of seven percent, with a remarkable surge in the borderareas of Mong Cai and Binh Lieu.

Mong Cai city is one of the province’s fourtourism hubs. It lured 1.6 million arrivals in 2016, and earned 1.1 trillionVND (48.4 million USD), up 52 percent and 47 percent from 2015, respectively.

In 2016, Mong Cai introduced several newtourism products, such as city tours on electric cars, cross-border tours and community-basedtours to the border islands of Vinh Trung and Vinh Thuc.

In September 2016, the Mong Cai – Vinh Thuc– Vinh Trung tour was established, contributing to tourism on the two borderislands.

Meanwhile, the border district of Binh Lieudeveloped community-based tourism thanks to its landscapes and historical andcultural values, such as forests, terraced fields, Khe Van water fall, Luc Natemple, Luc Hon ancient banyan tree, Cao Xiem mountain, and Khe Tien waterfall, and traditional festivals.

Binh Lieu has also taken measures to promoteits tourism, including developing a plan for tourism development, offeringincentives for tourism firms and building infrastructure facilities at tourismsites.

Locals have been encouraged to joincommunity-based tourism, particularly in Khe Van and Khe Tien.

Duong Cam Henh, a home-stay service providerfrom Khe Tien village, Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district said he is mobilisingvillagers to do home-stay tourism to increase their income and introducetraditional culture to tourists.

Secretary of the Binh Lieu district Party’sCommittee Mai Vu Tuan said the district aims to become a hub of cultural andresort tourism.-VNA
