Binh Phuoc (VNS/VNA) - The Forest Protection Department of Dong Phuc district in Binh Phuoc province has received a grey peacock-pheasant, which is classified as a critically endangered and rare species of wildlife in need of conservation. Ngo Quoc Dat, a resident in southern Binh Phuoc province, discovered an unfamiliar bird on the ground on June 17 when searching for termite mushrooms in a rubber plantation.
Having never seen this species of bird before, he researched on social media and realised that it was a grey peacock-pheasant, also known as Burmese Peacock-Pheasant belonging to Group IIB, a critically endangered and rare group in need of conservation.
Dat contacted the Forest Protection Department of Dong Phu district and completed the necessary procedures to hand over the bird.
The Department will nurture and take care of it for a period of time.
Once the health of the Burmese Peacock-Pheasant is stable, the relevant authorities will carry out procedures to release the bird back into the natural environment in accordance with regulations./.
