The mosaic road, spanning about 4 km and an area of 6,500 square metres, snaked its way through the districts of Tay Ho, Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung. The ceramic mosaics used bore the imprint of well-known pottery villages of Bat Trang, Chu Dau and Phu Lang. The mosaic road was inaugurated in September 2010 after three years of making. It was recognised by Guinness World Records in the same year (Photo: VietnamPlus)

After a decade, despite having gone under various times of reparation, some sections of the road have been downgraded, with swelling, cracks and desquamation appearing in a number of ceramic pieces. In addition to technical reasons, the mosaic wall is built next to a busy road seeing heavy traffic on a daily basis, putting up with a large level of vibration and severe weather conditions. All of those factors deal a blow to the mosaic wall’s duration, posing a huge challenge for conservation work (Photo: VietnamPlus)
