Hanoi (VNA) - At least 12 people, including Chinese tourists, were killed and 14 others were injured on December 20 when a bus plunged off a road in Thailand.

Local police said the accident happened in Doi Saket district, 30 kilometres north of Chiang Mai city.

Deadly road accidents are common in Thailand. In a 2015 study on global road safety, the World Health Organisation found that Thailand ranked second in the world in the number of road accidents, with 36.2 fatalities per 100,000 people.

The WHO said the number of officially reported road deaths in Thailand in 2012 was 14,059. But it added that the true figure might be up to 24,000.

The same day, a tourist bus crash in Los Limones village in southern Mexico also killed at least 15 people and injured more than 30 others.-VNA
