Roasted Vietnamese coffee recognised internationally

The French association forthe valorisation of agricultural products (AVPA) held an award ceremonyin Paris on June 12 to encourage coffee producers around the world toincrease the added value of their products.

President of the association Philippe Juglar said the competition drew70 coffee products from 15 top global coffee exporters such as Vietnam,Colombia, Cameroon, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, Gabon and Panama.

He recognised the high quality of Vietnamese coffee and its strongtaste as factors that helped Vietnam win prizes at its firstparticipation in the event.

Vu Thi Thu Hang,Director of the Sobica’s market development department, said the twowinning Vietnamese coffees were grown in the Central Highlands. TheAroma coffee is a blend of the best Arabica strains in Vietnam and theIntensity coffee is a mixture of Da Lat Arabica and Buon Ma ThuotRobusta, she added.

The company worked with its partners to determine a roasting technique that ensures the favour of the coffee, she said.

Trade Counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy in France Nguyen Canh Cuongexpressed his belief that Vietnam could turn into a major manufacturerand exporter of coffee products.

He encouragedVietnamese businesses to take part in similar international competitionsto learn experience from foreign partners and popularise Vietnamesecoffee to the global market.

Vietnam has a totalcoffee cultivation area of 614,545 hectares, 92 percent of which islocated in the Central Highlands. Each year the country exports 1million tonnes of coffee beans, generating an export turnover of morethan 3.4 billion USD.-VNA

Vietnam, RoK step up railway development cooperation
