Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Moon Jae-in expressed his hope to enhance the economic and diplomatic cooperation with Indonesia during a phone call with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on May 25.
According to Yonhap news agency, President Moon Jae-in noted that the RoK and Indonesia have constantly increased exchanges and cooperation since the two forged a strategic partnership in 2006 and hoped that Indonesia will support the RoK accelerate the partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to a higher level.
He affirmed that the RoK Government will enhance relations with the 10 member countries of the ASEAN, an important partner of the RoK.
On the occasion, President Moon Jae-in expressed his condolences to the victims of the bombings in the capital city of Jakarta on May 24. He stressed that the RoK is determined to play a role in wiping out terrorism across the world.
For his part, Indonesian President Joko Widodo congratulated Moon on his recent election victory.
The leader of the RoK also anticipated greater cooperation in bilateral defence industry, including warplane development.
In January 2016, the two countries signed an agreement to jointly develop the KF-X/IF-X 4.5-generation fighter, worth 8.1 trillion KRW (7.1 billion USD).-VNA
