HCM City (VNA) - The second edition of the circuit design competition for smart cities kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on December 18.

Hosted by the Saigon Hi-tech Park (SHTP)’s Management Board, the contest’s scale has been expanded, with the collaboration between Hanoi, HCM City, Da Nang city. It aims to train, and seek and develop talent in designing circuits to support the development of smart cities in Vietnam.

Le Quoc Cuong, deputy head of the Management Board, said the competition serves as an important bridge to access semiconductor microchip research and development projects from students across the country.

The competition is for students and trainees from universities, colleges, and academies nationwide who have ideas, projects, or studies and applications related to circuit design for smart cities.

With the theme "Dual transformation for development of sustainable green cities,” the event is open to a wide range of ideas and fields, focusing on developing concepts, designing and creating circuit products to serve the promotion of green city building activities. Candidates can register online through the competition's website at https://icdesign.hochiminhcity.gov.vn.

The contest, which will last until May 2025, consists of four rounds. In addition to the presentation and defence skills of contestants, an important evaluation criterion is the applicability of products and their socioeconomic impacts.

This year’s competition clearly reflects creativity, progress, and sustainability by focusing on training, nurturing, and refining ideas into finished products, he said, noting that in this process, contestants will be trained and interact with experts to finalise their ideas and design processes using international standard software.

The contest's first version in 2023 attracted 40 projects./.
