The pair were among senior officialsof the Khmer Rouge regime which was accused of killing 1.7 millionCambodians during their ruling from 1975 to 1979.
The court’s main judge Nil Nonn said this trial will focus on newcharges against the pair of genocide against ethnic Cham Muslims andVietnamese, forced marriage and rape, among others.
The first trial of the two was completed late last year, with the verdict - and possible sentences - set to be delivered on August 7. If foundguilty of committing crime against humanity, they can face the lifesentence.
The tribunal - the ExtraordinaryChambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) - was set up in 2006 with theaim of seeking justice for victims of the Khmer Rouge genocidalregime.-VNA
