Hanoi (VNA) – A seminar on the trade embargo against Cuba was held by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA) and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam in Hanoi on October 19.
The event saw the participation of representative from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and National Defence, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, mass organisations, historians and economic experts.
Participants expressed solidarity with the Cuban people and called on the US Congress to remove the economic , trade and financial blockade imposed on Cuba over the last five decades.
Cuban Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz spoke on the impacts caused by the US’s trade embargo against Cuba, while stressing the need to immediately remove the policy.
He said Cuba will submit a draft resolution to the 71 st session of the UN General Assembly this year to request the US lift its embargo policy against Cuba, and call for support from countries worldwide for the resolution.
The seminar adopted a statement of the VCFA, which called on the US Congress to end the trade embargo against Cuba, thus removing obstacles to socio-economic development in the Caribbean country the normalisation of the Cuba-US relations.-VNA
