Seminar discusses parliamentary libraries

A number of experts and parliamentary officers from Vietnam and overseas gathered for a seminar in Hanoi on October 11 to share their experiences in building and operating a parliamentary library.

The event, themed ‘Parliamentary Library:International Experiences’, was co-organised by the Vietnamese NationalAssembly Office and the Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation.

Doctor Nguyen Si Dung, deputy head of the NA Office, said thatbuilding a NA library is now essential to meet the growing demands forinformation from NA deputies. This would improve the quality ofinformation and promote the dissemination of references, documents and amountain of information. It would also help the NA’s administrativemachinery run in a more effective and modern manner.

At the seminar, experts from the Republic of Korea and Australiaexplained the intrinsic relationship between legislative researchservices and the library.

Proposals put forward atthe event will also help ensure that the Vietnamese NA Library projectwill improve the quality of information supplied to NA deputies.-VNA

OVs in Thailand preserve cultural legacy

The Vietnamese community in Sakaeo province, Thailand has maintained traditional practices, from wearing Ao dai (traditional long dress) during major celebrations to preserving authentic cooking methods, heard a recent meeting between Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Viet Hung and the overseas Vietnamese (OV) as part of the diplomat’s visit to the locality.

Dien Bien provides training for northern Lao cadres
