Singapore launches first home-made satellite

Singapore on April 20, successfully launched its first home-made satellite into orbit from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in India, according to local media.

The 105-kilogramme satellite, X-Sat was launched into orbit by Isro’s Polar Satellite Launching Vehicle (PSLV-C16).

At present, X-Sat is establishing communication with a ground controlunit in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). It is responsible forphotographing to measure ground corrosion and environmental changes onearth.

The satellite was jointly designed andbuilt by NTU and a research organ under Singaporean Ministry of Defenceover a period more than nine years.

By successfullylaunching X-Sat , Singapore became the first country in SoutheastAsia had a home-made satellite on the space./.
