Hanoi (VNA) – Singapore has officially approved the import of selected poultry meat and egg products from Vietnam, said Vietnamese Trade Counselor in the city-state Cao Xuan Thang.
He said that on March 11, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) issued an official document approving several livestock products from Vietnam to enter Singapore.
He noted that this move marks a milestone in the agricultural trade ties between the two countries. It also matches their joint commitment to facilitating the trading of animal-based food products, made on the occasion of the official visit to Singapore by Party General Secretary To Lam and the Vietnam visit by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in March.
The approved products include heat-processed poultry meat from CPV Food Co. Ltd and MeatDeli HN Co. Ltd, as well as canned and sterilised poultry eggs and meat (excluding beef). These companies have met the stringent standards set by the SFA, covering food safety, traceability, and operational protocols.
Singapore's market opening for some Vietnamese meat and egg products is expected to give a boost to Vietnam's livestock product export that exceeded 533 million USD in revenue last year, up 6.5% from 2023.
In 2024, Singapore imported over 3.87 billion SGD (2.88 billion USD) worth of poultry meat and eggs. The country imports more than 90% of its consumed food.
The SFA also announced that Vietnam must follow a prelisting procedure if it wishes to expand the list of companies eligible to export canned and sterilised poultry products to Singapore.
Thang emphasised that industry associations and Vietnamese businesses need to stay updated on regulations and standards of Singapore and focus on promotion activities./.
