Singapore puts precautionary measures in place to prevent mpox

The Ministry of Health of Singapore has announced that it, the Ministry of Transport, and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority are putting in place precautionary measures to enhance surveillance capabilities against mpox at the country’s borders.

Singapore (VNA) - The Ministry of Health of Singapore has announced that it, the Ministry of Transport, and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority are putting in place precautionary measures to enhance surveillance capabilities against mpox at the country’s borders.

From the beginning of this year to August 22, 13 confirmed cases of mpox were detected, all of which are of the less severe Clade II infections. There have been no mpox Clade I cases detected in Singapore to date.

While thus far, there are no direct flights between Singapore and any mpox outbreak country. From August 23, the country will conduct temperature and visual screening at Changi and Seletar airports for inbound travellers and crew arriving on flights from places which may be exposed to the risk of mpox outbreaks.

Similar screening measures will also be implemented at sea checkpoints for crew and passengers arriving on ships from mpox affected areas, the ministry added.

Earlier, Thailand confirmed one case of more severe mpox Clade I - the second of its kind reported outside Africa where the disease broke out./.
