Customs officials at Ho Chi Minh City ’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on September 28 seized 59 illegally-transported elephant tusks.

The ivories weighing more than 40 kg and worth more than 2.4 billion VND (114,300 USD) were hidden in cashew packs allegedly imported from Africa .

The case is under further investigation.

So far this year, the airport’s customs officials have reported six cases of illegal ivory transport and seized more than 300 kg of tusks worth 18 billion VND (857,100 USD).-VNA
