London (VNA) - A society of Vietnamese intellectuals in the UK and Ireland (VIS-UK) was established during a virtual inaugural conference held on December 19.
In his opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to the country Tran Ngoc An said a large number of Vietnamese intellectuals are living in the UK, and many of them hope to contribute to the development of their homeland.
The forum, therefore, is expected to connect Vietnamese intellectuals, scientists and experts through practical activities, further contributing to the country’s development in science, technology and socio-economy, he added.
The society will also work to forge and promote relations with a network of leading scientific research facilities, consultation organisations, intellectuals and experts of the UK and the world; and acts as a bridge linking Vietnamese scientists and their counterparts in the UK, consolidating the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership.
A nine-member executive board of the VIS-UK was elected during the event.
Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh, President of the organisation, pledged that executive members will exert every effort in fulfilling targets and holding activities to attract more intellectuals and experts./.
