Earthquakes rattle parts of Southeast Asia

A 4.9-magnitude quake struck near Kengpoun village in Viengxay district, Houaphanh province, at 23:26 on November 12. The epicentre, located close to the border with Vietnam, was about 10 kilometers deep. No significant damage or widespread impact has been reported so far.

Experts propose anti-scam solutions suited to Vietnam’s conditions

Vietnam’s digital transformation has achieved remarkable progress. However, similar to other countries in the region, online scams and fraud cases are on the rise. Last year, authorities recorded 10,000 online fraud cases, with estimated losses of nearly 759 million USD.

ASEAN Secretary-General affirms unity, cohesion in Southeast Asia

The ASEAN chief said the meetings, themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, concluded successfully, with 66 documents adopted and nearly 100 bilateral meetings held on the sidelines, reflecting the region’s extensive cooperation. He highlighted bilateral meetings with leaders, including Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Malaysia launches initiatives at ASEAN AI Summit

The ASEAN Foundation, with support from Google, launched AI Class ASEAN, a free learning platform to equip communities with the skills to thrive in the AI era. By training 800,000 local leaders across all ten ASEAN member states, the programme will empower 5.5 million people, including 400,000 Malaysians, with practical AI literacy.

Vietnam announces delegation for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme

Vietnam officially joined the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) in 1996, one year after its accession to ASEAN. The programme offers a unique platform for Vietnamese youth to broaden their horizons, sharpen their skills, and present a dynamic, forward-looking image of the younger Vietnamese generation to the international community.

Thailand eyes new markets to make up for Chinese tourists

Southeast Asia seeks additional tariff negotiations with US

The US decided to keep unchanged tariff rates on certain countries in Southeast Asia, such as 32% for Indonesia and 36% for Thailand, effective from August 1. Malaysia faces a 25% rate, up from the 24% that the US threatened in April.
