HCM City (VNA) – Hundreds of unique fruits in the southern region are being sold at a 10-day fruit festival that opened in the Suoi Tien area of Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9 on June 1.
The festival, the 12th of its kind is organised by the municipal Department of Tourism, Industry and Trade, and Suoi Tien Tourism JSC.
The annual event features numerous activities, including a float market selling fruit and handicraft, a fruit parade, a collection of rare and giant fruits, a fruit safety contest, and an art performance.
Fruit is being sold at discounts of between 20 and 30 percent.
Phan Thu Trinh from District 10, a visitor at the festival, expressed her eagerness at the festival, saying that she can buy fresh and high-quality fruit at a reasonable price.
Began in 2004, the festival has become a popular cultural tourism event, promoting the agricultural values of Vietnam and the southern region in particular.
Fruit cultivation spans 415,800 ha of land in the southern region and produces around 4.3 million tonnes per year, accounting for 53.2 percent and 57 percent of the country’s area and output.-VNA
