A cooperation deal to implement the first phase of metro route project No.5 in Ho Chi Minh City was signed on September 8 between the Urban Rail Management Board and the Spanish firm GEV.

Work on construction of the 17km metro route, which has a total investment of 1.85 billion USD, is expected to begin on April 30 next year. It will be carried out in two phases under the form of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.

The first phase from Bay Hien crossroad in Tan Binh district to Saigon bridge will be built at a cost of 500 million EUR (about 636 million USD) from the Spanish government’s ODA sources.

The Spanish government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are studying capital arrangement for the second phase from the Bay Hien crossroad to Can Giuoc bus station in district 8.

The metro route No.5 is part of the city’s 6-line metro network with the total length of 107km, linking the city centre to its satellite cities and surrounding density population areas./.
