Anti-terrorism police are mobilised to the scene of a recent bus station bombing in Jakarta (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) –Measures to protect Vietnamese citizens involved in several incidents in othercountries were clarified by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang at aregular press conference in Hanoi on May 25.
In response to reporters’ question about aVietnamese fishing boat detained by Indonesia’s fisheries resourcessurveillance ship, the spokeswoman said Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture andRural Development has provided official information about this incident.
The two sides are coordinating to resolve theissue in the spirit of friendship and on the basis of the countries’ strategicpartnership, she noted.
Regarding the situation of Vietnamese peoplefollowing the fresh terror attacks in Jakarta (Indonesia), Marawi (thePhilippines) and Manchester (the UK), she quoted Vietnam’s representativeagencies there as saying that there hasn’t been any new information aboutVietnamese in the incidents.
As an agency in charge of overseas citizenprotection, the Foreign Ministry has continually ordered its representativeagencies in those areas to update the situation and report to the ministry,Hang said, adding that they are ready to launch protection measures when Vietnamesecitizens encounter difficulties.
Regarding the case of Doan Thi Huong, a suspectin the death of a Democratic People’s Republic of Korean citizen in Malaysia inFebruary 2017, Hang said representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia andMalaysian lawyers paid consular visits to Huong on May 18 and 24 to give herspiritual support and seek strong arguments to defend her in the May 30 trial.Huong said she was in good health with stable spirit.
The Foreign Ministry is continuing close coordinationwith domestic authorised agencies, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia andlawyers to protect Huong’s interests in the upcoming trial, the spokespersonnoted.-VNA
