The People’s Committee of the central coastal province of Binh Dinh and the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation on June 10 inked a cooperation agreement on developing a fleet of steel fishing boats for local seamen.

The move aims to extend the operation of Vietnamese fishing boats in traditional grounds and improve their safety and peace of mind.

The province now has around 2,700 boats dedicated to fishing, yielding 180,000-200,000 tonnes of seafood a year, including some 10,000 tonnes of tuna.

The corporation has been implementing a plan on building six steel fishing vessels, and three have been handed over to fishermen.

At the signing ceremony, the Cam Ranh Shipyard secured contracts on building two more steel fishing boats for seamen in Hoai Nhon district.

On the occasion, the province offered five tuna fishing tackles, produced with Japanese technology, to local fishermen.-VNA
