Typhoon Rammasun swept through northern mountainous provinces over the last two days, killing four, injuring four others while one is missing, according to initial local reports.
Three children tending buffalos in Lao Cai province died on July 19 afternoon and three others were injured after being struck by lightning when the six were taking shelter from rain and whirlwind under a tree.
Meanwhile, one man was killed and another injured in Bac Kan province’s Cho Don district. All districts and towns in the province reported heavy rain, with rainfalls reaching 200mm in Phuong Vien. Landslides blocked traffic in National Road 3B and 11 provincial roads.
Son La province reported that one woman was swept away and remained missing in Thuan Chau district.
The storm also destroyed several dozens of houses, inundating hundreds of hectares of rice and vegetables and seriously damaging transport infrastructures.
Authorities of the localities are making every efforts to overcome the aftermaths of storm, the second tropical storm of the year.-VNA
