Geneva (VNA) – ViceChairman of the National Assembly (NA) Tran Quang Phuong and NA SecretaryGeneral Bui Van Cuong had a meeting with First Vice President of the Grand Councilof the Swiss canton of Bern Dominique Buhler and Secretary General of the GrandCouncil Patrick Trees on March 25.

The meeting was part of theVietnamese NA delegation’s working trip to Switzerland.

The twosides discussed parliamentary cooperation and partnerships between the twocountries’ localities, including Bern, to help develop the Vietnam - Switzerlandrelations in a result-oriented manner in all spheres.

Phuongcalled on Bern to continue supporting and creating optimal conditions for theVietnamese community in Switzerland to settle down, integrate into the localsociety, and promote their role as a bridge for enhancing bilateral ties.

At the session, Trees shared thefunctions, tasks, and experience of the Bern Grand Council’s Secretariatin advising the Secretary General about relevant issues to ensure transparency,modernity, and professionalism in performance.

Also on March25, the Vietnamese delegation had a working session with Mayor of Bern city Alecvon Graffenried.

The NA Vice Chairman of Vietnam briefed the hosts on the country’s socio-economic development achievementsover nearly 40 years of Doi moi (Renewal), along with its development targetsand strategy.

He expressed his hope that relations between the twocountries, their capital cities, and other localities will keep reapingfruitful results to contribute to peace, stability, prosperity, anddevelopment.

Mayor Graffenried noted he is impressedwith the beauty of the Vietnamese land, people, and culture, adding he hopes tovisit Vietnam, its NA building, and Hanoi in the near future.

Earlier, Vice Chairman Phuong and theNA delegation visited and met with members of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission inGeneva and the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland./.

NA Standing Committee discusses continued VAT reduction

The Government proposed a two-percentage-point reduction in VAT - from 10% to 8% - on goods and services currently subject to the 10% rate. This excludes certain sectors such as telecommunications, finance, banking, securities, insurance, real estate, metals, mineral products (excluding coal), and goods and services subject to special consumption tax (excluding petrol). The proposed timeframe for the reduction is from July 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026.
