Summer camp for overseas Vietnamese to run in July

As many as 150 young Vietnamese expats from 28 nations worldwide will join an annual summer camp specially designed for them in their home country from July 10 to 25.

Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 150 young Vietnameseexpats from 28 nations worldwide will join an annual summer camp speciallydesigned for them in their home country from July 10 to 25.

At a press conference on the event held on June 18, the StateCommittee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs – the organiser – said activities inthe framework of the camp will take place in 10 localities across the northern,central and southern regions.

The participating expats, aged 16 to 24, will visit a seriesof cultural – historical sites in Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, QuangTri, Hoi An, Da Nang, Quang Ngai. Among these sites are the Ho Chi MinhMausoleum in Hanoi, Dong Loc T-junction monument in the central province of HaTinh, and Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery in the central province of QuangTri.

They will join charity activities to present gifts tofamilies of the ten female youth volunteers who died at the historical Dong LocT-junction while keeping the smooth operation of the transport route to thesouth, orphans in Quang Ngai, and disadvantaged children in Ninh Thuan.

The youths are also scheduled to participate in exchangeswith their Vietnamese peers in Thai Nguyen, Quang Ngai, and Ninh Thuan.

The camp aims to help the young expats understand more aboutVietnam and improve their Vietnamese skill.  

Initiated in 2004, the Vietnam Summer Camp has attractedabout 2,000 young expatriates from various countries and territories.  Each camp had a specific theme and eventsdesigned to bring different experiences and lessons on the Vietnamese cultureand history for the participants, who previously had little experience in theirhome country.–VNA

19 localities eradicate substandard houses

Four more provinces have announced the completion of efforts to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities achieving this milestone to 19 out of 63 nationwide, according to the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs.

Vietnam accelerates repatriation of citizens detained in Myanmar

On April 8, 28, and May 14, three groups comprising a total of 471 citizens safely returned to Vietnam.
