Support given to Vietnamese Cambodians in Kampong Chhnang

Hanoi (VNA) – An inter-sectoralworking delegation led by DeputyForeign Minister and head of the State Committee for Overseas VietnameseAffairs Nguyen Quoc Cuong has visited Vietnamese Cambodians in Phsar Chhnangward and Chnoc Trou temporary resettlement area in Boribour district ofCambodia’s Kampong Chhnang province.

The Vietnamese Cambodians are facing a range of difficulties,especially during the implementation of the Cambodian Government’s policy torelocate households living in floating houses in Tonle Sap Lake.

Cuong presented gift packages, including rice and cash, toabout 600 Vietnamese Cambodian households in the areas.

He encouraged them to abide by the law of Cambodia, whilediscussing measures to seek new livelihoods for them as well as education fortheir children.

According to the Khmer-Vietnamese Association in KampongChhnang, the association has six chapters, with regular activities to popularizepolicies and laws of the host country among the community and advise them tosend children to schools.

Since September 2018, Kampong Chhnang authorities haveconducted relocation of floating households. The local administration hassupported the community in health care and resettlement areas. To date, morethan 1,068 households have been relocated, while 641 others are still stayingon fish floats.

Earlier on May 23, the working delegation had a workingsession with Kampong Chhnang’s Governor Chhour Chandoeun and relevant agenciestaking charge of the Vietnamese-Cambodian community in the province.

The provincial leader affirmed that the Cambodian side hopesto cooperate with Vietnam to develop a fish cage farming model and eco-tourismvillage.

A representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment of Vietnam pledged to consider the model and provide technicalsupport for Cambodia, including inviting Cambodian officials to visit somemodels in Vietnam.

Cuong agreed to consider the province’s request for supportto build two roads with total length of 7km into the temporary resettlementareas of Vietnamese Cambodian households.

He proposed that Cambodia create optimal conditions for thecommunity in infrastructure, health care and education.-VNA

Education-training sector preparing for strategic turning point: Minister

Reviewing the sector’s performance in the past five years, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said the scale of the national education system continued to expand across all levels, with more than 24.5 million learners nationwide. Major goals on universal education and literacy were basically achieved, while the proportion of trained workers holding diplomas or certificates reached nearly 30%.

Ho Chi Minh City steps up law enforcement on fishing vessel monitoring system

Ho Chi Minh City has 4,449 fishing vessels, of them 4,301 equipped with VMS devices, making up 96.67%. Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025, authorities found 1,729 cases of vessels losing VMS connection for six hours or more, issuing fines in 196 cases totalling nearly 6.6 billion VND (about 252,000 USD)

Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel pays courtesy visit to Da Nang
