More than 220 human trafficking cases are reported in the first half of the year, the director of the Department of Social Evil Prevention, Nguyen Van Minh, told a conference on Aug. 7.

Minh said the mountainous provinces of Ha Giang, Lao Cai and Lai Chau near the Chinese border are the hot spots.

Police also discovered 528 cases of prostitution and arrested nearly 1,900 people.

According to the Ministry of Public Security's report, there are more than 171,000 drug addicts nationwide, 12,900 up from the same period last year.-VNA
