Thai Binh police on September 12 announced end to the hunt for a gunman who killed one person and wounded four others at the Thai Binh city land fund development centre.

The move came after gunman Dang Ngoc Viet (42) shot himself dead at Dong Pagoda in Tra Giang commune, Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province, in the night of September 11, just hours after the incident.

Viet entered the centre, which is located in the provincial People’s Committee compound, at around 2:00pm, spraying bullets from a Chinese-made revolver that struck two officials and three civil servants.

They were Deputy Directors Vu Ngoc Dung and Pham Lan Anh, and civil servants Vu Cong Cuong, Bui Duc Xuan, and Nguyen Thanh Duong.

Later that evening, Dung succumbed to his injuries and died at Hanoi’s Viet Duc Hospital.

Major Nguyen Quoc Vuong, deputy chief of the provincial police office, said the other victims are recovering.

Investigative agencies have yet to issue their final conclusion on the case, he added.-VNA
