Paris (VNA) – A delegation of the People’s Council of the northern province of Thai Binh led by its Chairman Nguyen Tien Thanh is paying a working visit to France from May 19-22.

On May 20, the delegation visited and learned about the investment environment as well as cooperation opportunities in Nevers, the prefecture of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region’s Nièvre department.

Welcoming the delegation, Mayor of Nevers Denis Thuriot expressed his hope that this visit will open up new opportunities for cooperation between the two localities in the coming time, especially in areas where Nevers is strong at and Thai Binh is interested in.

Briefing the host on Thai Binh’s socio-economic situation and potential, Thanh said that over the past years, Thai Binh has risen to become one of the fastest growing provinces and achieved many impressive achievements in international cooperation and foreign investment attraction.

Last year, its gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 7.37%. It also attracted nearly 3 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI), ranking 5th out of the country's 63 provinces and centrally-run cities.

He showed his hope to intensify trade and investment ties and boost exports with Nevers, and step up collaboration in human resources training, high technology, education and training, health care and culture.

Attending a conference on business and investment connectivity between the two localities, Thanh committed to creating favourable conditions for investors to do long-term and effective business in Thai Binh.

The delegation also had a meeting with representatives of French enterprises in Paris who expressed their interest in the province's investment environment, preferential policies to attract foreign investors, as well as land and factory leasing policies, and its key export products to France and Europe.

During their stay in France, the delegation also visited the smart city cluster Campus Connecté in Nevers, the Schneider Electric Group's Innovation Centre and the Galeries Lafayette shopping mall in Paris./.
