Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The National Assembly on June 25 morning ratified a resolution approving the UK’s accession protocol to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), with 94.25% of votes in favour.

Presenting the report on NA deputies' feedback, Chairman of the NA’s Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha said all legislators agreed on the necessity of ratification. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with President of Poland Andrzej Duda on June 25 on the sidelines of the 15th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dalian city, China’s Liaoning province.

Chinh said that Vietnam always follows and is delighted at the socio-economic achievements that Poland has recorded over the years, affirming that it attaches great importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with the European country and always remembers the valuable support and assistance that Poland provided Vietnam during its struggle for national construction and defence. - Vietnam has made suitable efforts to clamp down on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing while striving to negotiate to have the European Commission (EC)’s “yellow card” removed, a counsel at the Advisory Centre on WTO Law told the Vietnam News Agency.

According to Christian Vidal-León, who previously worked as a dispute settlement lawyer in both the Legal Affairs and the Appellate Body Secretariat of the WTO, over the past six years, the Vietnamese Government has issued a number of related documents, and aligned the European Union’s recommendations with the Law on Fisheries, including the Government’s decision to issue an action plan on fighting IUU fishing in 2023. - The residential index rose sharply in Hanoi in the first three months of 2024 but decreased slightly in Ho Chi Minh City, according to a report by property consultancy firm Savills Vietnam.

The Savills Property Price Index shows that the office segment remained stable in both markets. Read full story

- Vietnamese and Chinese authorities joined hands to destroy more than 96 kilogrammes of drugs in Guangxi province’s Chongzuo city on June 24.

The drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, and ecstasy, were seized during the two sides’ raids in the border areas. Read full story

- Japan has suggested Vietnam revise the maximum residue limits (MRLs) for certain agricultural chemicals, according to the Office of the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam).

The office on June 24 sent a document to the Plant Protection Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development regarding the proposal. Read full story

- The 2024 Hue Community Ao Dai (long dress) Week was launched on June 24 in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, aiming to preserving and promoting the beauty of the Vietnamese traditional costume.

Director of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports Phan Thanh Hai emphasised that the event will not only help people and tourists access and better understand ‘ao dai’ but also contribute to educating the love for the traditional cultural values of the nation, promoting culture, attracting tourism, and boosting socio-economic development. - Construction started on a Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) in the central province of Ha Tinh on June 25.

The first phase of the Ha Tinh VSIP project covers 190.41 hectares in Thach Ha district, and has a total investment of 1.55 trillion VND (60.8 million USD)./. Read full story
