During the 21st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Indonesia’s Bali, PM Yingluck asked the APEC members to come up with clear goals in developing the Asian region as economic growth cannot be solely dependent on trade and investment, adding that all countries need a long-term plan for this region’s stability, security, and economic growth.
The Thai Premier also mentioned the “Bogor Goals,” which has been emphasised by APEC member economies for the last two decades, saying there have been some major improvements, judging from the economic growth and stability of the countries. However, she said the “Bogor Goals” are not the answer to a sustainable growth.
She went on to express her willingness to support the WTO’s idea to implement the “Duty Free, Quota-Free” among least developed countries, while pushing ahead for conclusions on trade negotiations between the members.
Back in 1994 when APEC held its meeting in Bogor, Indonesia, APEC leaders adopted the Bogor Goals that aimed for free and open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific by 2010 for industrialised economies, and by 2020 for developing economies.-VNA
