Thailand’s former Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) Suthep Thaugsuban was indicted on May 26 by the Criminal Court over charges of murder and attempted murder, local media reported.
Suthep was charged with allegedly ordering a military crackdown on red-shirt protesters in 2010, causing 98 deaths and hundreds of injuries. He denies the charges, according to the Bangkok Post.
His lawyer posted bail for Suthep, submitting a bank deposit passbook for 600,000 baht (18,000 USD) as surety. The court approved the bail request.
Suthep is required to report to the court for the first hearing on July 28.
The same day, Suthep and 24 other leading members of the PDRC were asked to report to the Office of the Attorney General over insurrection charges in relation to the half-year anti-government protests.
They were released on bail, and the Office is expected to gather evidence and decide whether to proceed with the charges.-VNA
