Bangkok (VNA) - Eligible recipients for the 10,000-THB digital wallet handout scheme can start registering from August 1, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said on July 15.
The scheme, targeting 16-year-old and older persons, will be ready to roll out once all measures ensuring safety are finalised, he said in a post on social platform X.
He went on to say that the national digital wallet policy committee met on July 15 to make final preparations for the registration of recipients and participating shops. Relevant government agencies will be assigned to carry out necessary operations for launching the project, including setting conditions for the recipients and measures to prevent corruption.
As per requirements, recipients of the 10,000-THB digital wallet handout should have turned 16 by September 30 and not have more than 500,000 THB in their bank accounts. They should also not have earned more than 840,000 THB in 2023 as per their tax filing.
The PM said that the digital wallet is a big government project to add money to the pockets of people, small businesses, and the economy. However, implementing the project takes time due to legal and technical prudence and security of users.
Meanwhile, Irada Luangwilai, Deputy Director of the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), said the Thang Raj (government’s path) app is now ready for digital wallet recipients to register.
The DGA had been working on the application for three or four years, and it can be downloaded on iOS smartphones via the App Store and on Android smartphones via Google Play, she added./.
