Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – Thailand and Austria eye strengthening ties in many respects as both nations celebrate their 64th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.

ACM Narongsak Sangapong, executive director of the Thailand-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group, has welcomed Austrian MP and member of the People’s Party Werner Amon during the latter’s official visit to Thailand. The reception took place at the Thai Parliament House.

ACM Narongsak said he was glad to host Amon and expressed his willingness on behalf of Thailand to work with Austria and the Austrian Parliament on all matters – economics, education, tourism, and social development – while at the same time enhancing legislative cooperation for more concrete results.

ACM Narongsak then thanked Austria for its understanding towards the current political situation in Thailand, assuring the visiting side of Thailand’s commitment to following the reform roadmap.

Amon was also told that the next general election can be expected no later than next year.

Expressing his hope in reply, the Austrian MP said Austria and Thailand should continue their active cooperation in all respects, given the fact that Thailand is Austria’s gateway to Southeast Asia whereas Austria serves as Thailand’s gateway to Europe. -VNA
