Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – Thai Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana has expressed confidence that bidding for five major projects in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) will be completed in 2018.
Uttama said the five joint investment projects include the high-speed railway for the Bangkok-EEC with stops at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-tapao airports, the expansion of U-tapao airport, the construction of an aircraft repair and maintenance hub at U-tapao airport, the construction of the third phase of Laem Chabang port, and the Map Ta Phut port expansion.
The Industry Minister said these five projects will boost the confidence of investors who would be likely to consider investing in the EEC, which covers 30,000 rai (48 square kilometres) in the eastern provinces of Rayong, Chonburi and Chachoengsao.
In addition, Uttama said his ministry will propose the expansion of the EEC in 18 areas, totaling 26,461 rai. He said the expansion would be able to accommodate investment projects worth 1.2 trillion baht. - VNA
