The Thai Rice Exporters Association (TREA) has forecast that Thailand 's rice exports in 2013 will reach 6.5-6.6 million tonnes, with shipments in December alone expected to total 600,000-650,000 tonnes.

In the first 11 months of the year, Thailand shipped 5.9 million tonnes of rice, earning about 120.8 billion THB. The figures represented respective decreases of 5.4 percent and 8.8 percent in volume and value.

Five leading importers of Thai rice during the period were Benin , Iraq , South Africa , the US and Ivory Coast .

The prices of Thai rice have decreased in the world market. On December 18, the price of 5 percent broken white rice dropped to 450 USD per tonne, only 30 USD higher than those of its major competitors such as Vietnam and India.-VNA
