Bangkok (VNA) – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has rejected all proposed candidates for the Election Commission (EC), further complicating the country’s upcoming general election.
During an election on February 22, no one among the seven proposed candidates received 50 percent of votes from 248 members of the NLA to become new EC members.
To become eligible, each candidate is required to receive at least 124 "yes" votes from 248 legislators.
According to the constitution, the selection process will have to restart, and the seven candidates are not eligible for future selections.
A new selection committee will be set up in 20 days, while the selection process will take 90 days. The NLA will then take another 45 days to review the process.-VNA
