Bangkok (VNA) - Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced for the first time the details of the draft 13th five-year National Economic and Social Development Plan for the period 2023-2027, which sets out five goals to transform the country.

Speaking on this issue while chairing a webinar themed "Mission to Transform" organised by the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) on September 22, PM Prayut said that the government will develop the country with five goals.

He said firstly, Thailand needs to restructure the production of its goods in connection with the digital economy. It must attach importance to research and development.

Secondly, the country needs to develop human resources to keep up with rapid digital changes.

Thirdly, the plan has attached importance to giving equal opportunities and fairness to people.

Fourthly, the country needs to focus more on environmental conservation and ways of handling the effects of global climate change in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.

Lastly, Thailand needs to prepare itself for any global challenges and issues such as connectivity to neighbouring countries, and the development of economic corridors in each region of the world as development proceeds apace.

The webinar saw the participation of representatives from state agencies, political sector, private sector and civil organisations to gather feedback on the draft plan.

NESDC Secretary-General Danucha Pichayanan said the implementation of the 12th national economic and social development plan between 2017 to 2022 is likely to miss its target as the country still faced problems related to the spread of COVID-19./.
